A viral advertising campaign has been launched for Ridley Scott's Prometheus and the first release is nerdbonerific to say the least. In the video teaser, Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) gives a TED Talk, discussing T.E. Lawrence, the Prometheus legend, and his own endless ambition.
This video is fresh off yesterday's rumor that Pearce would be playing one-half of the infamous Weyland-Yutani that featured so prominently in the Alien franchise. While Ridley Scott has continuously downplayed the connection of this film to that franchise, he keeps tossing us juicy morsels like this and we fans are left begging for more. Here's hoping for more teases like this one between now and June 8th!
The TED 2023 page adds this:
Peter Weyland has been a magnet for controversy since he announced his intent to build the first convincingly humanoid robotic system by the end of the decade. Whether challenging the ethical boundaries of medicine with nanotechnology or going toe to toe with the Vatican itself on the issue of gene-therapy sterilization, Sir Peter prides himself on his motto, “If we can, we must.” After a three year media blackout, Weyland has finally emerged to reveal where he’s heading next. Wherever that may be, we will most certainly want to follow. Conceived and designed by Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof and directed by Luke Scott.
My only wish is that I could have seen this video not knowing who he was because I would have shit myself at the end. On another note, I wonder if Kane from Alien was related to Peter because he sounds an awful lot like John Hurt! ;) Seriously, though, this looks AMAZING. It is beautifully shot and Weyland's words really encapsulate the terrifying ambition of Weyland-Yutani Corp. If Prometheus is nothing more than a W-T backstory with no xenomorphs anywhere, I will still be a very happy fan.
