Last year I featured my favorite trailers from 2012 and I'm here to do it again with 2013. This may seem like a weird topic for a list, but personally I love movie trailers and sometimes they are better than the actual movie. So, in the words of Benedict Cumberbatch's Khan: shall we begin?
10. Room 237
A simple but cool idea - the famous blood flood scene from The Shining re-created but with a VCR in place of the elevators.

9. Don Jon
"My body, my pad, my ride, my family, my church, my boys, my girls, my porn..."
That combined with Marky Mark's "Good Vibrations" makes for one addictive, quirky little trailer.

8. Stoker (International Trailer)
Creepy trailer that is a good representation of the film's tone. I especially love the second half set to the song "Dirge" by Death in Vegas.

7. A Field in England (UK Trailer)
I must have watched this trailer 10x in a row when it arrived online. The final 30 moments totally give me chills. I shall chew up all the selfish, scheming, and ill-intentions that men like you force upon men like me!
6. The Wolf of Wall Street
A trailer as fun and addictive as I hear the film is. As it rhythmically climbs to Kanye's "Black Skinhead," it gives us just a taste of all the outrageous debauchery going on in this movie. My favorite moment is the shot of Leo popping-and-locking.
5. Only God Forgives (Red Band Trailer)
While the other trailers use up pretty much all of the film's minimal dialogue, this red band trailer is great because the only words spoken are Crystal talking about how 'different' Julian is, and finally him asking, 'Wanna fight?' In between, it uses that beautiful karaoke music from the film - a bold but perfect choice. It sounds like a music box, giving it a dreamlike fantasy feel.

4. You're Next
As much as I love "Looking for the Magic" in the film, I also now associate Lou Reed's creepy-beautiful "Perfect Day" with this film thanks to the trailer. Well done, whoever thought this up.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy (SDCC Teaser)
This was exclusive San Diego Comic Con footage so it's not available in decent quality yet. I haven't even seen the full thing and I love it this much! I absolutely love the quirky song choice ("Hooked on a Feeling" by Blue Suede). Definitely not your average superhero trailer (and definitely not your average superhero movie). Ooga-chaka! Ooga! Ooga!

2. Big Bad Wolves
A truly haunting trailer, largely thanks to the song choice of "My Love Will Get You Home" by Christine Glass. The video brilliantly juxtapositions this sweet and innocent song (that sounds like it's sung by a child) with shots a child murderer's victims and a father enacting his revenge.
1. Godzilla (SDCC Teaser)
Here is another teaser that was exclusive shown at SDCC but Warner Bros has really been cracking down on this. I have the video but it would be removed as soon as I put it up, so a screencap and a description will have to do. It opens with overhead shots of a city turned to rubble and smoke. As the camera reveals the utter devastation (destroyed buildings; derailed trains; etc), we hear voice over from J. Robert Oppenheimer (actual audio from 1945, when the first atomic bomb was detonated):
We knew the world would not be the same. A few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture: Vishnu takes on his multi-armed form and says, "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.
All during that speech, you can hear heavy footsteps. And you hear Godzilla's first roar right after Oppenheimer says "takes on his multi-armed form and says..." What a perfect choice of a speech - not only does it sound terrifying but it's completely fitting since the original films were a response to the atomic bomb. Finally, at the end of the trailer, we see the silhouette of Godzilla rising and roaring. I got so many goosebumps I almost cried. There is a new trailer with more footage that is pretty great but it just cannot compare to this incredible teaser for me. I hope they release this in high-quality eventually because it is just stunning.
